Networks, servers and video surveillance (CCTV)

I design and build office networks, Proxmox servers and IP camera systems: cabling, Wi-Fi, firewall, backups and monitoring.

Who it is for

  • Offices whose network grew without a plan and now fails.
  • Homes and businesses that need reliable, well-installed cameras.
  • Teams that want their own server instead of paying for several subscriptions.

What is included

  • Network survey and diagram.
  • Structured cabling, switches, Wi-Fi and segmentation.
  • Firewall and switch configuration.
  • Virtualized servers with Proxmox: VMs, containers, backups and monitoring.
  • Network-wide DNS filtering.
  • PoE IP CCTV systems: design, storage planning, installation and phone app.
  • UPS units and power protection for critical gear.

How I work

How I work

  1. 01

    Survey

I visit the site, measure distances and review what already exists: equipment, cabling and weak spots.

  2. 02

    Design and proposal

Diagram, cabling plan, bill of materials and budget options, all in writing.

  3. 03

    Installation

Clean, labeled cabling, configuration and end-to-end testing.

  4. 04

    Documented handover

You get the diagram, the passwords and a user guide. Nothing stays in my head.

Camera systems that are thought through

Camera installations fail on details: a drive that cannot handle 24/7 recording, an exposed camera that gets stolen, unprotected cable or a promise of “face recognition” the hardware cannot deliver. That is why every project starts with a written design.

The request

  • Two fixed cameras at both ends of the porch roof, protected against vandalism.
  • A third, discreet camera hidden between two trees, covering the street in both directions and movable on demand.
  • 24/7 recording and live view on the TV and the phone.

The solution

  • 4 MP PoE bullet cameras, IP67 with 30 m infrared, each inside a steel cage bolted to the slab with security screws.
  • For the third: a “2-in-1” camera (fixed panoramic lens + PTZ module) that records both directions at once, mounted on a galvanized pole inside the foliage, with the cable protected in conduit.
  • A 4-channel PoE NVR —one channel free to grow— with a surveillance-grade drive, HDMI output to the TV and an app with PTZ control and alerts.

What the client received

  • A technical proposal with a schematic preview of each camera location.
  • A connection diagram and cabling plan (≈ 47 m + 20 % slack).
  • A catalog of alternative models and three options by budget and delivery time (local stock or import).
  • A table of recording days by drive size and quality, like the calculator below.

Clear expectations: none of the proposed models does face recognition; their smart features tell people from vehicles. I put it in writing so nobody would pay for something they would not get.

How many days will you record?

Recording days calculator

A dual-lens camera uses 2 channels.

Recording mode

Storage per day

86.4 GB

Days of footage

22 approx.

Estimate: GB/day = channels × Mbps × 10.8. Recording on motion only typically multiplies the time by 3 (depends on the scene). The recorder overwrites the oldest footage when full.

Proxmox servers

I run my own Proxmox homelab with virtual machines, LXC containers and Docker: it hosts AI services, DNS filtering and internal tools, with disk health monitoring. The same foundation works for an office: one server for files, backups and applications instead of several subscriptions.

Networks you can maintain

At Totalplay I supervised data services over GPON fiber and configured network security with firewalls and switches. In an office, that means a documented, segmented network with properly configured gear, not cables nobody can trace.

FAQ

Can I watch the cameras on my phone?

Yes. The recorder joins your network and I set it up with its app for live view, playback and motion alerts.

How many days of footage will I get?

It depends on the number of cameras, quality and drive size. Use the calculator on this page for an estimate; the proposal includes the exact numbers.

Should I get my own server?

If you pay for several subscriptions or need to keep data in your office, a Proxmox server can consolidate backups, files and services. We look at the numbers before deciding.

Tell me what you need and I will tell you how I would solve it, no strings attached.
